Michelin Primacy 4 review - Features

The car world was introduced to the Primacy 4 at the IAA International Motor Show in 2017 when the first model was unveiled. This replaced the Primacy 3 as a successor.

One of the selling points of the Primacy 4 is its high performance and enduring safety at all stages of the tire’s functional life. These premium tyres are also silent, regardless of the road surface or type, ensuring a unique ride comfort.

The nature of a tyre’s wet braking performance is of immense importance, especially on wet roads. The same thing goes for the wet grip performance.

Michelin Tyres understands the importance of wet braking, and has equipped the Michelin Primacy 4 with adequate features that allow the tyre to maintain its grip and braking performance even after lots of mileage.

In a test to show the extent of its quality and excellent performance, Michelin fitted a Honda Accord with two sets of Michelin Primacy 4. These two sets include one set of new tyres with an 8mm tread depth and another set of worn-out tyres with barely 2mm in tread depth.

Apart from the Honda Accord, two other vehicles were fitted with the same sets of tires, but this time, from other tire brands.

During the test, we saw that the car fitted with the Primacy 4s braked hard from 80km/h and made a stop, 2.5 millimeters shorter than the other tyres from other brands, and above average performance compared to others in the market. This was the value for the new tyres.

The worn tread set of tyres stopped 5.1 millimeters shorter than those from the other tire brands. After more careful observation, we discovered that the worn-out tread Michelin Primacy 4 braked 1.8 millimeters shorter than the new tyres from the other tire brands. This is a really impressive quality and performance.

This performance can be attributed to the EverGrip Technology used by Michelin. This feature ensures that the tyre remains less tapered and has squarer grooves. With the squarer grooves and less tapered ire, the ability of the tire to effectively evacuate water increases by 50%.

The Primacy 4 is a tyre with high-level performance, setting the standards for safety with regards to tyres. The tyre took a total of three years, from design to manufacture.

This goes to show that the engineers took their time to come up with a tyre possessing unmatched features and qualities.

Premium Touring Summer Tire

One of its high points is its resilience on wet surfaces, right from the first use to its last day of functionality. Its wet braking performance is also one of the major selling points of the tire.

As a successor to the Primacy 3, a tyre that was popular for having the shortest braking distance and high grip in wet conditions as well as on dry roads, Michelin claims that this tyre would address the issue of worn-out tyres by providing more mileage, among other benefits.

Moreover, Primacy 4 uses a new pattern design that is aimed at safety. This new pattern design features less tapering around the tyre and squarer grooves. These new features ensure that the P4 can evacuate water from the surface of the tyre, enhancing its braking performance.

This new sculpture, in conjunction with the high-quality rubber compound used, allows the tyre about 22% extra space for water evacuation without affecting its durability and longevity.

Lastly, the Primacy 4 comes with a treadwear indicator that helps you monitor that use and alerts you when it is time to change the tyre.
