Lately it seems like everybody and his brother is doing something to raise awareness for the dangers of distracted driving, and that is a good thing.
Most recently here in Ontario, the good folks at Young Drivers of Canada hosted a media event at their new controlled driving facility in Markham. Students, in this case my own teenager and his buddy, were taken for a drive loop around a mock intersection where they were given extra tasks to do at the same time as following the drive instructions. Naturally, they both had some challenges along the way.
The buddy didn’t even see a cyclist that rode past, in a bike lane!
It isn’t much of a surprise that a couple of new drivers might be challenged by a distracted driving test, but what if a world class driver were presented with a similar challenge? Racing drivers are known for their intense focus on the track, and their ability to deal with changing situations. Surely that would count for something.
