Auto manufacturers tend to market the all out performance and handling of all wheel drive cars, but handling is a relative thing and if all four wheels are spinning, chances are that all is not well.
The driver of a Nissan GT-R recently found that out the hard way at Edinburgh Speedway in Texas, when the car was launched hard off the line and lost traction, causing it to turn hard right, into the Armco barrier. Unlike a cement* wall, which would have contained the car and caused a bit of body damage and perhaps a damaged wheel and tie rod, the Armco folded like a chip bag and Godzilla crossed over. One might expect that the damage to the underside could be expensive!
* Is it wrong that for some reason I heard this in Bobby Unser’s voice as I typed it and thought see-ment?
