Few motorsports events are more Canadian than the Rally of the Tall Pines. Held in Ontario cottage country, Tall Pines is typically a mix of gravel and snowy roads and is the final round of both the North American and Canadian rally seasons. With Pines coming up next weekend, perhaps the time has come to share some highlights from previous years.
Tall Pines dates back 1971 and in the late Seventies and early Eighties, top competitors were using some serious machinery. Rear wheel drive monster cars that were built to European rally spec, these were the forerunners to Group B.
YouTuber Ryan Bishop just uploaded this great coverage of the 1979 event, which was won by Finnish Canadian rally legend Taisto Heinonen in a Toyota. Narration is by Canadian media icon Wally Crouter.
