Things can go wrong faster than a blink of an eye when driving an open wheel race car around an oval at more than 220 miles per hour. Even a slight gust of wind can take an otherwise great day and turn it nine shades of ugly. Just ask AJ Foyt IV.
In qualifying for the 2003 Indy 500, the legendary AJ Foyt Jr’s Grandson spun at more than 200 MPH. Lady Luck kept him out of the wall before the Foyt tenacity kicked in and the driver kept the car straight as it sailed down the straight at speed.
I’ll bet there were skid marks on more than just the racing surface that day!
