Most consumers have no idea what dangers technicians often face in an automotive repair shop. Often, more senior techs have been around the dangers that they forget about them. Worse, they sometimes don’t pass along the message of just how dangerous some things are to apprentices.
Some things, are just so violent and yet infrequent, that young workers never truly understand the severity of them until it happens to them. A tire exploding in the shop is one of those situations. It just doesn’t happen that often, particularly in shops that work with passenger cars.
I currently have two teenage sons who are in auto shop class at school. They mount and balance tires fairly frequently and while they do wear proper eye protection, I’ll bet they have no clue just how dangerous the activity is.
They will be watching this video today. If you know young people who work with tires, then pass this along to them too.
