Canadian Element buyers will not get to choose Dog Friendly option
As owners of a rather large canine, we’re always interested when we hear about new developments in fido friendly car travel. In the USA, buyers of the 2010 Honda Element can choose the Dog Friendly option designed to make travel with the pooch a breeze.
The package includes a mesh car carrier to keep your dog from wandering and from becoming a projectile in an accident. This carrier is complimented by a soft dog bed, ventilation fan, spill proof water dish, all season rubber floor mats and a doggie patterned rear seat cover. Perhaps the coolest part of this is a retractable ramp, just the thing for dogs like ours who are capable of climbing in but choose not to. The Dog Friendly option is available for $995.
The catch is that Canadian owners will not have the choice. According to Nick Dasko at AutoNorth, Honda Canada feels there is not enough market interest in the package to justify bringing it to Canada. The second part of the argument is that importing the American made goodies to Canada would be cost prohibitive. I would hazard a guess that this is the real reason.
This is a shame, as I’m sure the Element demographic includes a fair number of dog owners.
