One of the greatest things about the Rolex 24 is that it draws drivers from around the world, for all different types of racing, from open wheel to stock cars and of course sports cars.
The race also brings out the legends of endurance racing, with names like Haywood, Hobbs and Bell being regulars at the event. Earlier today, I was surprised to see none other than AJ Foyt, who celebrated his 81st birthday a couple of weeks ago. Notoriously gruff, most conversations I have had with Super Tex over the years have been brief and to the point. This afternoon however, the two time winner of this race was cheerful and talkative. Foyt has endured some serious medical issues recently, is hoping to be able to continue attending races and our conversation ended with him saying “hopefully I’ll see you in Toronto.”
