Up and coming Canadian racer Scott Hargrove was able to put together a last minute deal to race in Indy Lights, as sportscar racing team 8Star Motorsports made the decision to make a switch to open wheel racing.
Despite the very short notice, Hargrove was able to pull off fourth and sixth place finishes in the first races of the season, at St. Petersburg. In between races, RACER Magazine’s Robin Miller spent some time with the driver and team owner Enzo Potolicchio and talked about how the team came together.
As I mentioned in yesterday’s post about Mantella Autosport, modern motorsport marketing takes more than a little bit of creativity and dedication to providing exposure for marketing partners. To this end, Hargrove has created a new program called BC Pit Crew, to build buzz within the British Columbia community and as a hub for the team’s social media activities. While it isn’t as groundbreaking as James Hinchcliffe’s Hinchtown.com was when it was launched, it is an interesting twist and will be fun to see how it grows.
I was fortunate to work with Hargrove during his championship winning run at the 2014 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada and found that the young driver has a great support group guiding his path. A super fast driver, Scott is also a genuinely nice young guy who is really easy to work with. I expect that we will see good things from him this season.
