As a young teenager in the early Eighties, I was a voracious reader of anything automotive that I could get my hands on. There wasn’t a great selection in the local library, but there was one gem, a book called Sunday Driver by the legendary Brock Yates. A book I must have checked out dozens of times.
Sunday Driver was a compilation of Yates’ stories about adventures ranging from driving in the Trans Am series to the original Cannonball Baker Sea To Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash. That original across America rally featured some of auto racing’s most colourful personalities. I did not realize that one of those was a young reporter named Robin Miller. The popular Indycar correspondent, now with RACER Magazine, just sat down to tell hist story of that infamous event.
Such a shame that we couldn’t do this today without landing in jail!
