The roll-out of the 2016 Nissan Titan XD has been a long one, as trucks started popping up across the continent just months after its reveal at the Detroit show a year ago. As the build team was introduced to media, it became clear that they were all true truck guys who were determined not to repeat past mistakes. As cool as the previous Titan was, it missed the mark on a number of levels and the plan was to ensure that the next generation was the truck that buyers want, not what the team thought that buyers want.
With American truck inspired looks and a Cummins Diesel under the hood, media who have driven the truck seem to think they are on the mark. I haven’t driven it yet, but all the numbers add up and it certainly looks the part.
Now it is time to see what consumers think.
The 2016 Titan HD goes on sale in Canada today. The base price is $52,400 which is about $700 cheaper than a similarly equipped F-250, so they’ve got their pricing lined up nicely with the market this time. My bet is that while the big Nissan won’t impact sales of the F-Series and Ram too greatly, they will fill that niche in between the big guy’s half ton and three-quarter ton offerings and that was their goal. I’ll bet they sell as many as they can build.
