Working in automotive media, I am lucky to meet many incredibly interesting people, who share my passion for motorsports and specifically for Canadian auto racing. One of those guys is Danny Bailey, one of the videographers for Motoring TV among many other projects. Beyond being a talented shooter of video and stills, Bailey is an absolute hoot to work with.
Danny recently came across this video that he had produced during his last year of college. Mosport Madness was filmed at the 1982 Can-Am race at Mosport Park. The 33 year old film won third prize in the 1983 CBC Telefest Awards in the video long category. Bailey says “The film was all shot on 3/4″ video. Back in the days when you had a separate recorder and camera. The recorder slung over the left shoulder while shooting with the camera over the right.”
It is exciting to see that the video survived the years intact, so that Bailey is able to share it with motorsport fans around the world. Mosport Madness does a fantastic job of capturing the carnival that was Mosport back in the early Eighties. Be sure to watch for names like Jacques Villeneuve Sr, Danny Sullivan and Scarborough racer Horst Kroll. If you were there, chances are you might make a cameo too!
