In an attempt to build some viral buzz, shoe retailer Famous Footwear has put together a parody of Ken Block’s Gymkhana franchise and set it loose on the interwebs. They began by stuffing a Toyota Sienna full of Chevy LS3 and sending Mom and the kids out on a shopping spree.
I’m sure they had a fun time filming and the end product is pretty good. Originally posted to YouTube on February 17, the video has already attracted 770,000 views, so they have done well.
The comments on the video are interesting. I expected to see people bashing Famous Footwear for putting kids at risk and promoting crazy driving, but most are complaining about poor sound effects or that the video has nothing to do with shoes. There are a few female commenters who point out that women do not care about things like drifting.
Well, first off, perhaps the point is that they might be trying to bring more men into their stores.
As far as relevance goes, it would seem that a bunch of people have forgotten that Block’s entire Gymkhana series was started to promote DC Shoes!
Regardless, in my neighbourhood, this lady would be considered the coolest Mom in town!
