In yesterday’s story about NASCAR Canadian Tire Series 2015 Rookie of the Year Gary Klutt, I mentioned that his Dad Peter was a popular TV show host. For a time, the elder Klutt’s show, Dream Car Garage, was one of the top ranked shows on SPEED.
The show, a comfortable and approachable series that featured seriously hot cars and friends Peter and the late Tom Hnatiw, likely became popular because the guys made viewers feel as though they were just hanging out with buddies. It was less pretentious than car shows that had come before it, and certainly was less schlocky than today’s crop of crap. Tom & Peter’s real personalities came through on the show, as did their legitimate depth of knowledge.
Peter and Gary now host another show about their classic car business, Legendary Motorcar, and are in the midst of shooting a new series.
Finally, after years of gathering dust, the old videos of Dream Car Garage are being digitized and the best bits are being uploaded to Legendary’s YouTube channel. If you have never seen the original show, there is some really cool stuff, like this video from 2002, where Peter gets to drive a truly historic Ford GT40 at Watkins Glen.
After you watch this one, be sure to have a look at their channel, where you will find hours upon hours of great footage.
