After the SRT brand discontinued their racing efforts at the end of 2014, Canadian hot shoe Kuno Wittmer’s social media stream became more about babies and bicycles than racing. The standout endurance racer, who had been the lead development driver for the Viper program and was a key part of the team’s success, was left without a ride.
That drought has come to an end with the posting of the photo below on Instagram today, announcing the Montreal based racer’s return to competition in the 2016 season with BMW Motorsport.
Wittmer has been named to drive the 2016 BMW M6 GTLM in select endurance rounds of the IMSA WeatherTech GTLM class with BMW Team RLL including the Rolex 24 at Daytona, Sebring and Petit Le Mans. While that may seem like a limited schedule, we can be sure that Wittmer’s skill set as a development and endurance driver will play a key part in the team’s development of the exciting new car.
