Honda in the United States has issued a stop sale of all 2016 Civic models due to a problem which may cause an engine failure. Autoblog reports that the issue could apply to as many as 34,000 of the vehicles. Honda’s Alliston, Ontario plant is the global lead plant for production of the 2016 Civic, with a plant in Greensburg, Indiana also producing vehicles for the American market.
When asked if the issue affects Canadian and American built vehicles, Honda Canada contact Maki Inoue issued a standard response: “Honda Canada has decided to take market action to address an issue with certain 2016 Civic models equipped with the 2.0 liter base engine. Honda Canada has begun taking steps to inform relevant stakeholders of the issues and will provide a formal statement once additional details have been determined. This issue does not affect any Civic models equipped with the 1.5 liter Turbo engine. Honda will not be able to offer any further details until that time.”
In other words, if you own a 2016 with the base 2.0L engine, hang tight and Honda will let you know what they are doing soon.
