While evaluating vehicles entered into the Canadian Car of the Year awards program is a lot of work, nobody is complaining. I mean really, a week spent driving the newest of cars on great roads, a high performance course and challenging off road trails surrounded by Fall colours in full swing beats a week in the office, no matter how cool your office is.
The final day of the event however tends to take on a more relaxed feel, as participants feel relived at having completed all of their categories and surviving TestFest. The final day is also an open testing day, where non-voting members, who do not usually write regular road tests, arrive to drive some of the many cars that they might otherwise never get access to. Also, select non-automotive media which have been previously invited arrive on site to learn what goes into choosing the Canadian Car of the Year. With several video crews on site for a wide variety of media genres, the venue takes on an air of excitement.
