Employees of Autoblog Canada were greeted with a call this morning from AOL management to tell them that their efforts on the regional autos site were no longer required, as the site was being shut down. Shortly afterwards, the redirect page you see above was posted, beginning with the statement “Thanks for following us on Autoblog Canada.”
AOL decided to create region specific sites for their popular Autoblog portal close to four years ago, at which time I joined the team as a daily content editor. My gig was to Canadian-ize content written by the Site’s American writers along with contribute my own unique content. From what I can see, all of the content I created for the site has vanished into the ether along with the rest of it.
This is a bitterweet moment for me, as I saw great potential for Autoblog Canada. Still, senior management allowed some very questionable middle management nonsense during and after my time with the site, and it seems like the poor management decisions continue. A shame, as we have lost a great outlet.
